After a chaotic night during which in the popular districts of the suburbs of Paris and the other large cities of France violent incidents broke out by mostly young protestors for the police shooting death of a seventeen-year-old car driverwho had repeatedly broken the road traffic code, France is preparing for another day and night of tensions.

At 15:00 (Greece time) and following the invitation of the victim’s mother, a gathering is scheduled to take place in the suburb of Nanterre, just outside Paris, where the tragic incident took place.

The prosecutor of Nader announced today that based on the data of the investigation conducted by him, the use of the weapon by the police officer “is not justified” and that he will be charged with manslaughter. He also announced that the toxicological investigation carried out did not show that the seventeen-year-old driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs, nor was his passenger, while a third person, who was in the car and escaped, is being sought.

French President Emmanuel Macron convened this morning a ministerial meeting for the management of the crisis, while he described as unjustified the acts of violence that broke out yesterday in France and resulted in the burning of state buildings, such as police stations, municipal buildings and schools, as well as many cars.

Government officials have been calling since this morning against the use of violence and in favor of the return of calm, mainly in the suburbs of Paris, while political actors mainly from the right and far-right believe that the areas where violent events have erupted will they must be placed under a state of emergency, as happened during the violent incidents of 2005. On the other hand, parties and political actors from the left place political responsibility on the government for the orders it gives to the police forces.
