With authorities expecting another difficult night of violence in France, they have announced that there will be curfew in certain areas of Paris. At the same time, there will be no services from trams and buses.

“Clamart is a safe and quiet town and we are determined to keep it that way”says a message on the city’s website.

Some public transport services will also be suspended in the city of Lille. Trams and buses will stop operating from 20:00, according to a statement from the city authorities.

At the same time, three elite police units are ready to intervene if the planned demonstrations tonight get out of control, according to French journalists, as reported by the BBC. Earlier, French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said 40,000 police officers would be deployed across France tonight.

Tension and tear gas in the memorial march for 17-year-old Nael

Earlier, tension between protesters and police prevailed during a march held in the city of Nanterre led by the mother of 17-year-old Nael who was killed by a police officer last Tuesday. During the march, the police used tear gas and some protesters tried to kick them back at the police, resulting in tension.

About 6,200 people are believed to have been on the march in Nanterre, according to a police source who spoke to AFP news agency on condition of anonymity, demonstrating alongside 17-year-old Nael’s mother, Mounia. Nael’s mother, wearing a white T-shirt and mounted on a van, shouted “Justice for Nael”. From behind, hundreds of citizens followed her, also wearing white T-shirts with the date the 17-year-old was killed, demanding justice.
