The spokesman of the Famagusta Police Department, Andreas Konstantinou, confirmed to KYPE that last Friday “there was an incident at the Paralimni High School with the school principal and a student’s 53-year-old parent”.
A case of assault, threat and public insult against the school principal is being investigated against the parent, he said.
He added that “during the investigation of the case, the Police, through the epidemiological team, confirmed that his wife, daughter and the 53-year-old himself were positive for the coronavirus”.
According to him, when the police searched for the man, he was in his office. The members of the Paralimni Police Station, said Mr. Konstantinou, “will proceed to criminal proceedings for the fact that while he should have been under restraint, he nevertheless did not comply with the terms of the Infection Law”.
It is noted that despite the fact that the student was said to be positive for the coronavirus, however, instead of being confined to the home, she went to Paralimni High School normally. According to the complaint made by the Principal of the School, she was informed by other parents of students that the student together with her mother were positive for the coronavirus, a fact that was confirmed by other sources.
The High School Principal called the student to his office and after confirming from her that she was positive in Covid-19, she called her mother who did not answer, as a result of which she contacted her father.
However, when the 53-year-old went to the High School and the Principal’s office, he allegedly started cursing and threatening him.
Answering a relevant question, Mr. Konstantinou said that “the Paralimni Police Station is investigating a case of assault, threat and public insult against the 53-year-old.” He also added, “with the expiration of the 53-year-old’s confinement time, he will be summoned for questioning and for the offense of violating the Law on Infectious Diseases, since while he was a coronavirus case, he nevertheless failed to comply with his isolation”.
It is noted that both the District Office of the Ministry of Education Larnaca – Famagusta and OELMEK were informed about the case.
