In the hands of the Florida authorities fell for almost 40 years wanted for murder, whose name was listed three times on the list of America’s Most Wanted (the most wanted of America).

The 65-year-old today Donald Santini allegedly used 13 aliases to elude authorities who wanted him for the 1984 murder of a 33-year-old Florida woman.

He was serving as chairman of a local water board in California at the time of his arrest, according to the BBC.

Sandini was extradited to Florida where he faces murder charges.

Sandini was wanted for the murder of 33-year-old Cynthia Wood, at the time she was divorcing her husband. He was the last person seen with her on June 6, 1984 before detectives discovered her body in a canal after she had been strangled.

“The arrest of Donald Sandini closes an unsolved case and brings justice for the victim and his family after nearly four decades of waiting,” said Hillsborough County, Florida Sheriff Chad Chronister.

Authorities said he was named a suspect shortly after the killing and immediately fled Hillsborough County.

Santini appeared several times on the TV show America’s Most Wanted – in 1990, 2005 and 2013.

Multiple agencies, including the FBI, worked on this case for years. The search has taken searchers to Texas, California and even as far as Thailand with no luck until this year.

Acting on a tip, authorities arrived in San Diego. There Sandini was arrested and charged with murder, before being transferred to the Hillsborough County Jail in Tampa, Florida.

He lived in a small suburb of San Diego, Cabo, under the pseudonym Wellman Simmonds.

He appeared regularly at public board meetings as chairman of the local water board, officials said.

In fact, he had volunteered for the Rotary Club, owned a Thai restaurant and managed a housing complex during the years he was on the run.

He had previously been jailed for raping a woman while in Germany.

In 1983, he was charged with robbing a convenience store in his home state of Texas.
