Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez arrived in Kiev today, the day his country takes over the rotating presidency of the EU, where he will meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Pedro Sanchez arrived in the Ukrainian capital by train from Poland, while the Spanish Prime Minister is visiting Kiev for the third time since Russia launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022.

“Already in Kyiv. I wanted the first action of the Spanish presidency of the EU Council to be in Ukraine” with Zelensky, Sanchez wrote on his Twitter account, noting that he would convey “all the solidarity of Europe”.

It is recalled that Sanchez, speaking on Friday in Brussels, said: “The war in Ukraine will be one of the great priorities of our Presidency, with a focus on ensuring unity (on the issue) among all member states.”

Sanchez will not be back in Madrid until Sunday, when he will meet with European Council President Charles Michel, a day before the arrival of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and the EU’s House of Commissioners.
