Dutchman Dylano van Hoff has died in a crash during the race at the slippery, rain-soaked Spa Circuit in Belgium for the Formula One Regional European Championship.

The 18-year-old, who won the Spanish F4 championship in 2021, was racing for Dutch MP Motorsport.

“MP Motorsport is deeply saddened to confirm that our driver Dylan Van Hoff has died following a crash during the second race of the regional European Championship at Spa-Francorchamps,” the team said in a statement.

Formula 2 teams and drivers competing at the Austrian Grand Prix observed a minute’s silence.

“Dylano died chasing his dream of reaching the pinnacle of motorsport. Along with the entire motorsport community, our thoughts are with his family and loved ones,” said Formula One chief executive Stefano Domenicali.

This is the second accident at the same track, as four years ago Frenchman Antoine Humber lost his life in a Formula 2 race.

Local media reported Van Hoff died in a multi-car crash during a delayed restart due to heavy rain.
