Rain in the Inner Mongolia region caused flash floods on Sunday that killed one person and left two others missing, state broadcaster CCTV reported.
Since Friday, rescuers in various parts of southern China, including the southwestern province of Guizhou, have been moving people and livestock to places safe from floods and landslides, according to state news channel CGTN.
Heavy rains hit parts of Yunnan province over the weekend, where roads turned into torrents and cars were washed away, media reported.
Mudslides in Sichuan province, also in southwestern China, claimed lives last week.
Abnormally high temperatures are still occurring earlier than usual in larger parts of northern China, state media reported, citing the National Climate Center.
The heat is expected to last another 10 days, state media reported, as citizens took to social media to express their despair.
“I can’t see the term high temperature anymore,” wrote one.
“I can’t even cry because my tears are evaporating,” wrote another.
Forecasters have also been warning of storms for weeks.
A hailstorm on Saturday in northeastern China’s Heilongjiang province caused windows to shatter, according to videos posted on social media.
The extreme weather comes as US climate envoy John Kerry is expected in China soon for talks.
