Four people died and four others were wounded by bullets late Monday in Philadelphia, where a suspect was arrested, media reported, citing police sources.

A spokesman for the Philadelphia Police Department confirmed by email to Reuters news agency that there were “multiple” victims, but added that he could not provide further details at this time.

Later, around 20:40 [τοπική ώρα]police said a suspect wearing bulletproof vest was arrested and a rifle and handgun were seized at a short distance, according to a report in the digital edition of the Philadelphia Inquirer newspaper.

Like the newspaper, WPVI, a local Philadelphia television station owned by ABC News’ national network, reported that two of the victims were teenagers, one of whom succumbed.

The details of the new mass shooting – attacks with the use of weapons that have four or more victims, in the idiom of American police authorities – in southwest Philadelphia are still fuzzy. The tragedy unfolded on the eve of the 4th of July national holiday in the US.

A day earlier, yesterday Sunday, two people were killed and 28 others were injured, almost half of whom were children, by gunfire during a celebration in a neighborhood of Baltimore (Maryland).
