At least eight people were injured When the driver of a car plowed into pedestrians near Tel Aviv mall, then attacked passers-by with a knifeas Israeli officials said today, Tuesday.

Israeli intelligence has named the man who carried out the attack in Tel Aviv. This is the 20-year-old Palestinian Abed Elohab Halaila, from the West Bank who has no history with the Authorities.

The attack occurred as Israeli forces continue military operations in the occupied West Bank city of Jenin for a second day, a day after the raids that killed at least 10 people aged 16 to 23 and injured around 100.

Hamas claimed responsibility

Hamas claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement, stating that it was a response to Israel’s ongoing military operation in Jenin.

It was an indication that “occupation forces will pay the price for crimes in Jenin”a representative of the Palestinian organization said today.

Earlier, Israeli police described the incident as “terrorist”reporting that the suspect was “subdued” by a citizen who rushed to help.

How did the attack happen?

A spokesman for the Israeli police described the incident saying that: “A person drove his car into civilians in a residential area, injuring seven civilians. He got out of his vehicle and started trying to stab those around him. Fortunately there was a citizen who was armed and managed to neutralize the terrorist.”

A 46-year-old woman is in serious condition, the national emergency service said.
