The Russian missile strikes in Lviv in the early hours of the morning resulted in three people being killed and several others injured, the mayor of the city in western Ukraine announced.

Three dead“, Andriy Sandovy summarized via Telegram, shortly after he spoke of “eight injured” and “dozens of apartments” that were damaged in a video he uploaded to the same social networking platform.

Emergency services have been mobilized as “there may be others under the debris”, according to Mr Sandovi.

Earlier, he spoke to “a man in critical condition” who received an ambulance.

It was a “direct hit” on an apartment building by Russian forces, the head of the regional military command, Maxim Kozhitsky, also claimed via Telegram.

In visual material he uploaded, an apartment building is depicted that has suffered major damage, with part of the upper floors missing.

According to Mayor Sandovi, “60 apartments” were damaged in the city.

Infrastructure of “vital importance” was also “damaged”, according to “the first information”, said the head of the regional military command Kozinski, who had warned that “enemy cruise missiles” were heading towards the western part of the country.

The latest announcements from officials followed alarms across much of Ukraine over reports of Russian cruise missiles entering Ukrainian airspace.

Hundreds of kilometers from the frontlines, Lviv and its surroundings have been repeatedly attacked since the Russian army invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022.

On the night of June 19-20, “critical” infrastructure in Lviv was hit by Russian UAVs, Mr Kozytsky had reported.

Five people were killed in March in a Russian raid that hit a residential area in Velika Vilchanitsa, Lviv Region.
