In addition, a state-of-the-art fitness center with terrace, a yoga studio and a basketball court.
Residents can take advantage of various entertainment facilities including a private IMAX cinema, one of only two in all of New York. Indoor and outdoor lounges offer catering by a chef, a golf simulator and a children’s play area.
The entrance from the street opens into a space as a verdant public ‘pocket park’ which the office designed as a haven of calm from the densely built Financial District. “The idea of creating a ‘pocket park’ as an outdoor room for the city was for me the most interesting dimension of the project. Making not only a housing complex but a piece of public infrastructure, a piece of the city, was really important,” Adjaye said at the opening.
The skyscraper stands out from many skyscrapers that surround it, especially from the largely glass-covered office buildings like One World Trade Center that have been built in recent decades.
“The story of New York was the inspiration, this is the story of New York in the 21st century. I’m not trying to literally do an industrial warehouse, rather a kind of recognition of what was in that particular part of Manhattan. I couldn’t do this building anywhere else. It just made sense. It is also like a ruin in the city,” he underlined.
It is noted that the prices of the apartments range from 3,000,000 to 20,000,000 dollars.
