“Ukrainian soldiers continue to conduct active offensive operations,” a top Ukrainian general told the chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff in a phone call.
The commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, General Valery Zaluzny, told US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mark Miley that Ukraine’s counteroffensive is progressing as expected.
“I had a telephone conversation with the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Mark Miley,” Zaluzny said in a Facebook post Thursday. “I briefed him on the operational situation on the front line. Ukrainian soldiers continue to conduct active offensive actions.”
“The situation is developing according to plan, the initiative is in our hands,” he added.
Zaluzny also thanked Miley for the United States’ continued support for Ukraine and relayed his military’s needs for military assistance.
“We also discussed the urgent needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in terms of weapons and ammunition to continue the liberation of Ukrainian territory from Russian invaders,” he said. “I expressed my gratitude for the support and assistance, and congratulated the American people on the recently celebrated United States Independence Day.”
The United States is expected to announce a new military aid package for Ukraine on Friday that will include cluster munitions for the first time, officials told CNN.
