The last Ford Fiesta is coming out the manufacture off the production line signaling the ‘end of an era’ in almost half a century of motoring history for a legendary model of our childhood with top sellers in countries like Britain, but also top sellers in our country.

Ford will build the latest model in Cologne before modifying her factory to produce more electric vehicles.

The legendary model with its endless “transformations” was built for the first time in 1976 and became an instant hit with those who wanted smaller cars with lower fuel consumption.

More than 22 million Fiestas have been produced worldwide.

Ford announced it would end production of the Fiesta last October after also stopping production for its Mondeo family in 2021. Earlier this year, it also stopped making the S-Maxx and Galaxy vans. The production, also legendary, Ford Focus will end in 2025.

The auto giant is believed that uses electric propulsion as an opportunity to reinvent the brand for consumers with environmental concerns.

The first Fiesta model in the UK was built in Essex in 1977but the car was first built in Valenciain Spain, a year earlier.

It was originally designed as a small car with lower fuel consumptionin its wake oil crisis of 1973.

Alex Battle, co-founder of used car market Motorway, told the BBC that the car will remain popular with customers for years to come.

“Stopping production of the new Ford Fiesta could mean the end of an erabut the used market will continue to give life to this sought-after car for many years to come.” he added.

The last two Fiestas will be retained by Ford – one will remain in Germany while the other will be sent to the UK and placed in its collection.
