“If possible, I would like to ask about 20 voluntary passengers to choose not to fly to Liverpool tonight,” the pilot announced
THE easyJet “downloaded” at the last minute, 19 people from a flight to Britain because the plane was too heavy to fly.
The flight from Lanzarote Arrecife Airport in Spain to Liverpool John Lennon Airport, delayed due to the weight of the plane and bad weather.
The plane was due to take off at 21:45 on Wednesday, but left the Spanish airport at almost 23:30.

In a video shot by a passenger, the pilot can be heard saying: “Thank you all for coming here today. But because there are so many of you, the aircraft is quite heavy.”
This heavy aircraft combined with a fairly short runway and with the current adverse conditions here in Lanzarote, it means the aircraft is too heavy to take off. I have sat down with my senior first officer and we are very experienced in this and have done this in the past.
With safety as our number one priority, there is no way, in the current wind conditions, that we will be able to lift this aircraft. There are a number of factors – it’s too hot, the wind isn’t fantastic, the direction isn’t great.”
He also stressed that the only way the aircraft would be able to take off was to make it lighter and went on to say: “If possible, I would like to ask about 20 voluntary passengers to choose not to fly to Liverpool tonight. If someone wants to get off the plane, there will be an incentive. The current number that easyJet has told us per passenger willing not to fly is up to 500».
In the video in question, the passengers are outraged saying “I want to go home tonight” and shake their heads angrily.
Finally, an easyJet spokesperson confirmed to the Liverpool Echo that indeed, 19 passengers volunteered to get off the plane and this landed at John Lennon Airport just after 3am.
“easyJet can confirm that 19 passengers on flight EZY3364 from Lanzarote to Liverpool yesterday evening volunteered to travel on a later flight as the aircraft was over the weight limit for the prevailing weather conditions,” it said. The company.
“This is a routine decision in these circumstances and weight restrictions apply to all airlines for security reasons.
In the event that a flight exceeds weight limits, we ask passengers to volunteer to be carried on a later flight for free, which happened in this case as well.
Volunteers are compensated in accordance with regulations.”
“The safety and well-being of passengers and crew is always easyJet’s highest priority.”
