Manfred Weber, a leading German politician in the European Parliament, has ruled out any cooperation with the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party.which is seeing a spectacular rise in its poll numbers.

Other politicians and factions in Germany have made it clear for years that they have no intention of working with the AfD, which was founded ten years ago and reminds many of the country’s Nazi past.

However, according to a recent poll, this faction is now the largest party in Germany with 21% of voting intentions if the percentages of the two formations of the right, the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and the Christian Social Union (CSU) are counted separately.

The poll data and recent victories of the far-right party in local elections they have made so much noise in Berlin as well as Brussels and Mr. Manfred decided to take a public position.

The head of the European People’s Party (EPP, right), the largest faction in the European Parliament, told the Funke media group during an interview published today that the “firewall” remains.

He emphasized that the AfD is out to destroy the CDU and the CSUto which it belongs.

“For this reason for us he is not just a political competitor, he is an opponent, the enemy,” he insisted.

The next European elections in Germany will be held on June 9, 2024.

The AfD says so its purpose is to abolish the European Union.

The party has its highest percentages ever in the GDR, in eastern Germany.

Besides, Mr. Weber warned everyone those who vote for the German far-right faction that they endanger more than half of the jobs in the country.

“We live from exports. And anyone who challenges the European single market is throwing an ax at our prosperity. At the same time, Germany’s security is being put at risk” because the AfD is nothing more than “Putin’s pawn,” the center-right politician added, referring to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
