The BBC is in turmoil after the Sun newspaper revealed that one of the network’s best-known TV presenters had paid a total of at least £35,000 to a minor to send him indecent pictures of himself.

The presenter, who has not yet been named, has been suspended by the BBC.

The transaction for the photos allegedly first took place three years ago when the youngster was 17 and according to the family who spoke to the Sun the money was spent on drugs.

The child’s family first complained to the BBC about the presenter’s actions on May 19. The delay in the BBC’s reaction also raises serious questions about the management of the news organization.

As the BBC itself announced on Sunday night, contact was made with the Metropolitan Police regarding complaints received by the organization. It is an offense to possess indecent photographs of persons under the age of 18. BBC Director General Tim Davey is also in contact with the government.

According to the Sun, the BBC has now received further complaints from citizens about the presenter’s behaviour.

The same newspaper also reveals that the “panicked” presenter called his now 20-year-old victim twice over the weekend asking “what have you done?” and asking him to intercede so that his family can request that the investigations be stopped.

Over the weekend, well-known BBC presenters such as Gary Lineker, Jeremy Vine and Rylan Clarke were forced to deny with posts on Twitter rumors that they were involved in the case.
