The United States lands him Volodymyr Zelenskywho is engaged in diplomatic efforts to set a timetable for Ukraine’s NATO membership.

NATO will carve “reform road” for Ukraine to be able to join the Atlantic Alliance, but without a “schedule”, White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan clarified today.

Sullivan ruled out any immediate accession of Ukraine to NATO because of Moscow’s attack, warning that this “will lead NATO to war with Russia”.

A “reform path for Ukraine” will be charted, but “I can’t give a timetable,” Sullivan told reporters ahead of the start of a NATO summit in Vilnius. He also announced a meeting tomorrow, Wednesday, with the president of the USA Joe Biden with his Ukrainian counterpart.

The White House official said, however, that there is “a lot of good will” on the part of the allies meeting at the summit in Vilnius, while Volodymyr Zelenskiy is asking for a “clear indication” from the West regarding the prospects of his country joining NATO .

“The question is, which is the way?” the US official continued. “I think we can come to a good deal,” he added, as the allies work on a final communique to find wording that satisfies everyone.

Beyond the issue of membership, NATO’s 31 member countries are discussing measures aimed at guaranteeing Ukraine’s security, beyond military aid to the country, which is in the midst of a difficult counterattack to the Russian forces. Sullivan clarified that this issue will be discussed during Biden’s meeting with Zelensky tomorrow.

It is noted that article 5 of the Alliance clarifies that an attack on a member state is considered attack on all member states.
