One of the most important changes, in the annals of Italian television, was formalized in the last few days in Rome.

Journalist and long-time news director of Rai Tre, Bianca Berlinguer, presenter of political analysis shows, has decided to resign from Italian public television and jump to Berlusconi’s television group.

The journalist, with a progressive orientation, is the daughter of the Italian Eurocommunist leader Enrico Berlinguer, initiator, together with the Christian democrat Aldo Moro, of the “Historic Compromise” effort of the country’s two largest parties in the 1970s.

Rai management thanked Berlinguer “for 34 years of professional contribution” and wished her “all the best in her new career”. The Italian press, however, underlines that this is one of the most important “transfers” in the history of Italian television.

The newspaper La Repubblica adds that “the negotiation with the Mediaset group took place directly with its president and Silvio Berlusconi’s eldest son, Piersilvio, with absolute confidentiality.”

Bianca Berlinguer, 63, is expected to present, in the next television season, a political talk show on the Rete 4 channel of the Berlusconi group. As leaked, based on the “package deal” he signed, all the main contributors of the journalistic team he has worked with in recent years are going to jump from Rai Tre to the private Rete 4.

The amount of the contract signed by the journalist has not been disclosed but, according to analysts, it will last for at least three years and her cooperation is expected to bring an increase in advertising revenue to Mediaset channels.
