A man alleged to be an officer of the Russian secret services and accused of smuggling US electronic systems and ammunition to Russia was extradited from Estonia to the US.

Electronic systems were intended as aid to Ukraine after the Russian invasion.

Vadim Konosenok is expected to appear in federal court in Brooklyn later today. Prosecutors are asking for his pretrial detention pending trial, citing the risk of absconding.

The 48-year-old Konosenok was arrested by Estonian authorities in October 2022 as he tried to cross the border into Russia carrying 35 types of semiconductors and electronic components, some of which were subject to US export controls, according to prosecutors.

He had told his accomplices through electronic communication networks that charge 10% commission in transactions for items that were subject to controls. “I can’t (s.s. charge) less. (s.s. There are) penalties,” he wrote, according to prosecutors.

Konosenok was initially indicted last September as US authorities sought to tighten export controls and sanctions aimed at hampering Russian forces’ military operational capability.
