A total of 1,278 court decisions were issued and 95% of them were convictions
More than a thousand people were convicted in France for participating in the riots that shook the country after death of 17 year old Nael from the police shooting at the end of June. Between them 600 have been taken to prison, according to a statement from the Ministry of Justice.
All in all, they were issued 1,278 court decisions, the 95% of them reprehensible, Minister of Justice Eric Dupont-Moretti explained to the RTL network.
The minister added that 1,300 individuals were brought to the prosecutor’s office and 905 of them with the process of the autocar.
In total, 1,056 people were sentenced to prison, 742 to prison without parole and the average length of time of the sentences is 8.2 months.
So far, 600 of those convicted have been sent to prison.
The Minister of Justice stated that in terms of prosecuting parents of minors who participated in the riots, there will be a “case-by-case examination, because the issue is not to punish the mother who works at night and raises her child alone. Generalization is never good.”
