Pharmaceutical company Pfizer Inc said on Wednesday that its Rocky Mount, North Carolina, plant, which is one of the world’s largest facilities for sterile injectables, had been severely damaged by a tornado.

A company spokesman confirmed in an emailed statement that the Rocky Mount facility was damaged and the drugmaker was assessing the situation to determine the impact on production.

Company employees at the scene managed to get away and are safe, the statement added.

The facility, which produces nearly 30% of all sterile injectables used in the US, also focuses on manufacturing a variety of products such as anti-infectives, neuromuscular blockers as well as vials and syringes.

The Rocky Mountain facility employs more than 4,500 workers, according to Pfizer’s website.
