Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will undergo surgery on the night of Saturday to Sunday to “install a pacemaker” in his heart, his office announced early today, a few days after the 73-year-old politician was discharged from the hospital where he was admitted due to a health problem.

“Prime Minister Netanyahu will undergo an operation to install a pacemaker tonight,” according to the announcement. The operation will be performed under “anesthesia” and the Prime Minister will be replaced during hospitalization by “Minister of Justice and Deputy Prime Minister Yariv Levin”, the press release added.

A week ago, Mr. Netanyahu was released from a medical center after hospitalization and an overnight stay due to vertigo.

The medical center decided to use a Holter monitor to monitor his heart rhythms, explained Professor Amit Segev, director of the cardiology department at Sheba Hospital.

Mr Netanyahu said in a video posted on his social media accounts that he expected to be discharged “in the afternoon”.
