Local authorities ask Rome to declare Sicily in a state of emergency – Evacuation of 2,000 tourists from three hotel units in Puglia due to fire
Italy is at the mercy of the weather. Seven people lost their lives the last 48 hours from the fires in the Italian south and the storms which continue in the north of the country.

An 88-year-old woman, with breathing and heart problems, could not be taken to hospital in time because of the fire, and died in a district of Palermo, San Martino delle Scale.

In Sicily, firefighters evacuated part of Cervello Hospital, in the city of Palermo. The flames have reached a distance of a few hundred meters from the patients’ beds.
