A month after Donald Trump’s defeat in the 2020 presidential election, a draft presidential executive decree was drawn up ordering the Secretary of Defense to seize all electronic voting machines from one end of the United States to the other. Politico.
The explosive document, which comes from the National Archives, brings to light the extreme measures that the Republican president was prepared to take in order to seize power.
“From today, the Minister of Defense will seize, collect, maintain and analyze all machinery, all equipment, all information stored electronically” for the presidential election, according to the draft executive decree, three pages long, the which, however, was never signed (1).
The decree, dated 16 December 2020, also provided for the appointment of a special prosecutor to investigate allegations of fraud following the seizure of the machinery.
To justify these measures, the document lists a number of conspiracy theories – which have been repeatedly refuted – of machine piracy. It is not known who drafted the executive order, but Politico reports that its content is generally in line with the suggestions of Sidney Powell, a former member of Trump’s team of lawyers.
The draft is among 750 documents submitted to the House of Representatives special inquiry committee investigating the attack on the Federal Capitol, following the rejection by Donald Trump of the Supreme Court of Appeals to prevent their disclosure.
The committee did not respond when asked by the French Agency for comment.
The committee, which is made up mainly of Democrats, is trying to verify if and what responsibilities the former president and his entourage had for the attack on his supporters at the congressional headquarters on January 6, 2021.
