Silvio Berlusconi announced on Saturday that he is withdrawing his candidacy for the presidency of the Italian Republic.
This was announced by Forza Italia MP Lizia Ronzuli, who informed about the decision of “Mr. TV” the leaders of the League, Matteo Salvini, and the super-conservative party “Brothers of Italy”, Georgia Meloni.
Through Ronzuli, Belrusconi added that “his party, along with the rest of the center-right, will propose a new name, capable of securing the maximum possible consensus.”
Former President of the European Parliament and current coordinator of Forza Italy, Antonio Taiani, also stressed that “Mario Draghi should remain Prime Minister of the country, a position from which no one will move him” and called for “no reshuffle”.
Voting for the election of Italian President Sergio Matarella begins on Monday. Despite the opposite view of Berlusconi and his party, at the moment, the main “favorite” remains the country’s prime minister, Mario Draghi.
