Seven contestants in beauty pageants held recently in Jakartafor the selection of the beauty who will represent Indonesia in the final phase for the selection of “Miss Universe”, they accused the organizers of sexual harassmentas it became known today from the lawyer who represents them.

According to the plaintiffs, organizers of the national pageants – which were held in Jakarta from July 29 to August 3 to select Indonesia’s entry in the annual Miss Universe pageant to be hosted in El Salvador later this year – they asked the 30 finalists to strip for “physical examinations”.

Lawyer Melissa Angraeni told Agence France-Presse (AFP) that the organizers insisted on the need to rule out the presence of “scars, cellulite or tattoos” anywhere on the contestants’ bodies.

The 30 finalists were put through this test in a room with more than 20 people present, including several men, according to the lawyer, who added that five girls were photographed during the test.

One of the plaintiffs said at a press conference that she was asked to pose obscenely, spreading her legs. “I felt like I was being watched, I was confused and very uncomfortable,” she said. The Kompas TV network, which broadcast her statements, had edited the image to blur her facial features, while maintaining her anonymity.

A police spokesman in Jakarta assured that the complaints would be investigated.

The director of the organizing authority of the Indonesian beauty pageant, Popi Kapela, simply took to Instagram to thank everyone who shared “opinions, feelings and ideas” about the beauty pageant after the revelations came to light.
