Around 230 workers at London’s Gatwick, Britain’s second-busiest airport, will hold eight days of strike action this month over pay demands, the Unite union said today, warning of problems with flights during the peak summer season. travel period.

Ground staff, passenger service staff and other workers at Gatwick are negotiating with a number of employers including Red Handling, Wilson James, Menzies and ASC in separate pay disputes.

Last month some planned strikes were called off after workers received improved pay offers. Today, however, the Unite union announced that workers at Red Handling and Wilson James will go on strike.

These latest strikes, which will take place in phases starting on August 18 and running until August 28, will cause disruption and delays to more than 200 scheduled flights in the first four days of this period, Unite said.

Hundreds of thousands of workers in Britain have been on strike since last year as pay rises failed to keep up with high inflation.
