At least three people were killed by a Russian strike on Zaporizhia, as the president announced on Wednesday night Volodymyr Zelensky.

“So far, the death of three people has been confirmed,” the Ukrainian president said in a post on the Telegram platform, without specifying where exactly the attack took place. “The rescue operation is underway,” he added.

President Zelensky released a video in which he appears a ruined church, where a fire has broken out, as well as another burning building.

According to regional governor Yuri Malatsko, “a church and shops” were affected in the Chevchenkiski district in the northeastern part of the city. “Doctors are taking care of the injured,” he said and added that the windows of neighboring buildings were broken by the powerful explosion.

“The enemy attacked a residential area”underlined Anatoly Kurtiev, head of Zaporizhzhya city council.

This megacity in southern Ukraine has repeatedly been the target of Russian bombing since the start of the war in February 2022.
