The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson said that it is visible to everyone that Russian President Putin is planning a “lightning war” in Ukraine that could take the capital Kiev.

He warned the Russian leader that such a move would be a “catastrophic step” and that an invasion of Ukraine would be a “painful, violent and bloody affair” for Russia.

“I think it is very important for the people of Russia to understand that it could be a new Chechnya,” Boris Johnson said, adding that any invasion of any size would not be costly and would have many casualties.

The British Prime Minister also said that he considers that there will be resistance from the Ukrainians, while when asked if he considers that an invasion is imminent, he answered that the security information is “rather gloomy” on it, referring to the “very large” concentration of Russian forces in borders.

“I do not think it’s inevitable,” Johnson said, adding that “logic can still prevail.”

He added that it was right to strengthen Ukraine and support for the Ukrainian people and the country’s territorial integrity.

The British Prime Minister defended the decision to expel members of the British embassy from Kiev, speaking of a prudent decision, while noting that the United Kingdom is leading the preparation of financial sanctions on Russia, with him in contact with other capitals and Washington .
