Moscow stressed that the thwarted attack put the lives of innocent civilians at risk, warning it would retaliate.
“There can be no justification for such barbaric actions and they will not go unanswered,” Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said in a statement posted on Telegram.
The Russian Defense Ministry said earlier this afternoon that a Ukrainian missile attack aimed at the Crimean bridge had been repelled. The Russian side had already announced this morning that it shot down 20 drones that were launched towards the Crimean peninsula overnight. The Moscow-appointed governor of the annexed peninsula, Sergei Aksyonov, said Russian forces shot down yet another Ukrainian missile over the Kerch Strait this afternoon.
