By order of the mayor of Oropedio, Giannis Stefanakis, the Municipality of Oropedio of Lassithi was placed on increased alert with 24-hour coverage due to the ongoing extreme weather phenomena. In this direction, apart from the vigil of the Civil Protection of the Municipality, telephone lines were put into operation to report urgent problems. These are the lines 2844-340140 and 2844-022396 and for social care issues “Help at home” the telephone line 2844-340152.
On these lines from today Monday until later, the answering machines will answer and forward the issues that will arise to the Civil Protection Officers, while 24-hour shifts have been provided.
According to the announcement of the Municipality “with the extreme manifestation of the phenomenon it is estimated that the infrastructures and the networks of public utility will be tested to a great extent and there may be interruptions” while it is pointed out that special care has been taken to have a permanently parked workshop HEDNO in the area of ​​the Municipality of Oropedio while the EKAB unit in Tzermiades operates not only 24 hours but with double crews and 2 ambulances in order to provide a second coverage even in case of delivery.
“Priority of all of us in the Municipality, political, administrative, technical staff, is the protection of human life and we ask the residents to avoid unnecessary travel. In case of need, we are all in our positions and we will intervene to address the problems “, says the mayor Giannis Stefanakis.
By decision of the mayor, due to the unfavorable weather conditions, tomorrow, Tuesday, January 25, 2022, the school units of all levels of education in the municipality will remain closed, while the kindergartens will not operate. There will be a newer announcement for Wednesday, January 26th.
