The US today announced a new arms delivery to Ukraine worth $200 millionto compensate for an accounting error by the US Pentagon in the costing of weapons already shipped to Ukraine.

These weapons, which will be taken directly from existing stockpiles, include ammunition for Patriot anti-aircraft systems and Himars artillery systems, as well as millions of shells, cartridges and grenades and demining equipment.

Two US officials told Reuters last Monday that they would begin providing $6.2 billion in funds which were discovered after a Pentagon accounting error overcharged billions of dollars in aid sent to Ukraine. In June, the US Pentagon acknowledged this accounting error. That was the result of a higher-than-guaranteed return on weapons taken from US stockpiles and then sent to Ukraine, two senior defense officials said today.

Until Russian forces withdraw from Ukraine and the war ends, “the United States, along with our allies and partners, will continue to stand by Ukraine for as long as it takes.”“, the American Foreign Minister Anthony Blinken said in a statement.

Since the start of the Russian invasion, Washington has sent $43 billion worth of weapons to Kiev. President Joe Biden asked Congress last week to approve the release of an additional 13 billion.

While the vast majority of American lawmakers support this policy of military aid, polls show a relative fatigue among the American population towards this policy.
