The lifting of the arms embargo was renewed to Cyprus from the United States of America.

According to State Department Spokesman Matthew Miller, Secretary of State Antony Blinken has determined and certified to Congress that the Republic of Cyprus meets the necessary conditions under applicable law to allow the Department to authorize exports, re-exports and transfers of defense equipment in the Republic of Cyprus for the financial year (FY) 2024.

Compliance with the terms is assessed annually by the US.

The State Department welcomes the decision by the US State Department to proceed with the extension of the lifting of the arms embargo against Cyprus, according to a statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus to extend the lifting of the US arms embargo.

In the same announcement it is emphasized that:

The Republic of Cyprus welcomes the reaffirmation of this decision and its extension for fiscal year 2024, which is based on the legislation “Eastern Mediterranean Security and Energy Partnership Act” enacted by the US Congress in 2019.

The decision of the American Government demonstrates the continued upgrading of Cyprus-US bilateral relations in the field of security and defense. Our goal remains the deepening of this strategic corporate cooperation which is conducted on the basis of international law and the need to build conditions of security and stability in the Eastern Mediterranean region.”
