France: Record of coronavirus cases with over half a million in 24 hours

by

France on Tuesday set a record for infections with the new coronavirus, which broke the barrier of half a million for the first time in one day.

501,635 cases of SARS-CoV-2 were confirmed and 364 patients died due to complications of COVID-19 within 24 hours, according to the public health service.

The death toll from the new coronavirus pandemic in the country has reached 102,086 dead in hospitals.

The number of patients admitted to intensive care units (ICU) decreased by 35 to 3,741.

In the meantime the vaccination pass has entered into force in France and is now displayed by anyone over the age of 16 to enter public places. It is not mandatory for children 12-15 years old, but they must show a health pass and, from Monday, they can receive booster doses of COVID-19 vaccines.

Health Minister Olivier Veran warned in statements to the LCI television network yesterday that 9 million citizens should receive a booster dose by February 15, otherwise their vaccination pass will no longer be considered valid. From this date, it will be considered that someone was fully vaccinated if they received a booster dose within 4 months of the second.

On January 20, Prime Minister Jean Castex announced the lifting of restrictions in February. The use of masks outdoors will not be mandatory after February 2, while nightclubs will be allowed to open from February 16.
