Two people have been pulled dead and about 35 rescued from the rubble of a building that collapsed overnight in Abuja, Nigeria.
It was around 23:00 (local time, 01:00 Greek time) when the two-storey building collapsed in the Garki district of the Nigerian capital. Rescuers rushed to the spot and, with the help of volunteers, freed survivors, who were taken to a hospital.
“We helped free several people. Two of them were unconscious. More than 20 people were pulled from the rubble,” Yakubu Inua, an employee at a nearby store, told Reuters news agency.

Building collapses are a frequent occurrence in Africa’s most populous country, with the Nigerian authorities mainly attributing them to urban planning arbitrariness and poor workmanship.
