After from a series of vandalism at the Colosseum last month, another Italian monument was vandalized by tourists, CNN reports.
The reason for the 460-year-old Vasari Corridor, a beautiful riverside passage connected to the famous Uffizi Gallery in Florence, where graffiti related to the football team Munich 1860 was done.
The perpetrators of the vandalism, according to the Carabinieri, were two German tourists aged 20 and 21 among a group of 11 students staying at an Airbnb in the city center.
“By analyzing the footage from the surveillance cameras, we were able to identify two people who, at 5.20 am on Thursday, caused damage to the very important artistic space,” the Florence Carabinieri said in a statement to CNNi.
After a raid on Airbnb they were found two black sprays and clothes with paint stains. Authorities are comparing fingerprints from the sprays to those of 11 students, all of whom were questioned in the case.
The one kilometer Vasari Corridor was built by the Italian Renaissance painter and architect Giorgio Vasari in less than nine months in 1565.
It was intended as a secret route for the then leader of the Medici dynasty, Cosimo I from the private family residence in the Boboli Gardens to what is now the Uffizi Gallery, then the seat of the governor.
