The inmates die of filth and hunger

Built in 1985 to house about 1,300 inmates, the Fulton County Jail has housed more than 3,000 people in recent years.

They prevail in prison “unhealthy living conditions” that led to cases of Covid-19, head lice and scabies, according to a report by the Southern Center for Human Rights.

As it turned out, the inmates were “severely malnourished” and they were dealing with a condition called cachexia.

Staying in these conditions has been proven deadly for the prisoners.

This month, a 34-year-old man was found unconscious in a medical unit cell at the jail, where he had been held since 2019. He was revived but later died at the hospital, according to the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office.

This inmate was the sixth person to die in county jail system in 2023;
