Hawaii’s emergency management agency recently ordered the evacuation of areas on the northwest tip of the island of Maui as a wildfire threatens homes.

The evacuation order applies to the Kaanapali area north of Lahaina, which two and a half weeks ago faced an unprecedented fire nightmare.

“Evacuate your family and pets immediately, do not delay. Be prepared for conditions that can make driving difficult and look for safety personnel deployed to the area,” Hawaii Governor Josh Green said in a social media post.

Hawaii authorities have been heavily criticized for their handling of the deadly fire that burned the tourist town of Lahaina and killed at least 115 people. Hundreds are missing and fears are expressed that the final death toll will be much higher.
