Tropical Storm Idalia sweeps through North Carolina after leaving parts of Florida in its wake and begin the arduous road to recovery.

Tropical Storm Idalia Continues to Pound Southeast Atlantic Coastwith flash flood warnings in North Carolina, while parts of Florida’s west coast face “significant damage” from the most powerful hurricane to hit the Big Bend region in more than a century.

Thousands of homes have been damaged in Florida, some with crushed walls and roofs, flooded to the waist with officials warning they are hot spots for days to come.

However, while some deaths were reported, the devastation is considered less than what could have been from the Category 3 hurricane that hit Florida before hitting southern Georgia and South Carolina.

Two men were killed in separate crashes Wednesday morning during severe storms, Florida authorities said. Both deaths are weather-related.

Another death was reported in Lowndes County, Georgia, where a man died after a tree fell on him while he was trimming a tree on a highway.

Idalia is expected to retain its tropical storm status as it moves off the East Coast beginning Thursday morning.

Heavy rainfall in South and North Carolina “will continue to cause flash, urban and moderate river flooding in areas with significant impacts,” the hurricane center said.
