Russian President Vladimir Putin to hold talks with Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan on Monday in the Russian Black Sea resort of Sochi, the Kremlin said today.

Two Turkish sources told Reuters yesterday, Thursday, that the meeting will mainly discuss grain exports via the Black Sea.

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said on Thursday he had sent Russia “tangible proposals” to revive an agreement that allowed for the safe export of Ukrainian grain. through the Black Sea, where Russia controls Ukraine’s sea lanes.

Russia pulled out of the deal in July — a year after it was brokered by the U.N. and Turkey — complaining that Western economic sanctions were blocking Russian food and fertilizer exports in violation of a parallel memorandum and saying they were not directed to countries that they need quite a lot of Ukrainian grain.
