At 11:00 local time, it was activated on a trial basis across Germany the early warning systemin order to check its operation and identify potential problems.

As part of the test, which is done every second Thursday in September, a special emergency telephone line will be operated by the Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance Service. The line will remain open until tomorrow evening.

The early warning system includes; special message on mobile phones, which arrives with a long piercing sound, but also messages via television, radio, internet, social media and special applications.

Municipalities can simultaneously activate other locally available means, such as loudspeaker messages or sirens. At 11:45 an “end of alarm” is expected.

The goal of the national early warning day is “to test the technical infrastructure of the system and to inform citizens about the warning process in case of an emergency,” the Civil Protection Service points out.
