Iranian immigrants demonstrated today in Brussels, on the occasion of Saturday’s one-year anniversary of the death of Mahsha Amini, the 22-year-old who was arrested by the morality police for not wearing her headscarf “correctly” and died a few days later, a an event that sparked, for months, massive anti-government protests.
Holding pictures of Amini and others killed in the protests, thousands of people called for the overthrow of Iran’s theocratic regime and the restoration of democracy. Organizers also said they are calling for the European Union to implement a unified policy towards Iran’s ruling Shiite clerics to hold them accountable for their actions.
At least 500 people were killed in the protests, on the occasion of Amini’s death, of which 71 were minors.
