Many polls show that voters are concerned about Biden’s age as well as that of his likely Republican opponent, Donald Trump, who is 77. A recent poll by Ipsos and Reuters showed they would get the same percentage, 39 percent, if they were rivals in the 2024 election. One in five voters said they were undecided.
Most Americans would prefer an age limit of 75 years or less for presidential candidates.
When asked about concerns that the president is too old to run for re-election, White House spokeswoman Karin Jean-Pierre responded with a quip: “80 is the new 40, don’t you know?”
“In 2019 he received the same criticism, in 2020 the same, in 2022 the same and every time he wins over his critics,” he added.
