During a meeting he had yesterday with the Israeli prime minister, Musk estimated that paying for access to the platform is the only way to deal with bots on the twitter platform that has been renamed to X
Elon Musk has hinted that all users of the X platform will need to pay “a small” monthly fee to access it, underscoring the need to curb fake accounts.
The entrepreneur has made several reforms to the platform since buying it for $44 billion in October, including changing its name from Twitter to X.
It also fired many employees, adopted a paid version of the platform, lifted content moderation and restored blocked accounts, such as that of former US President Donald Trump. In July Musk announced that X has lost almost half of its advertising revenue.
During a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday, Musk estimated that paying for access to the platform is the only way to deal with fake accounts.
“We are aiming to charge a small monthly fee to use the system,” the head of Tesla and SpaceX pointed out.
X Premium currently costs $8 per month in the US, but the price varies by country.
The world’s richest man explained that he is looking at cheaper options for users. “We’re going to end up with a lower price,” Musk noted.
However, there is a risk that if a monthly fee is imposed on X, the platform will lose a large part of its users, which will further reduce its advertising revenue, which is the largest part of the company’s income.
