The US administration today issued new Iran-related sanctions targeting individuals and entities in Iran, Russia, China and Turkey associated with the development of Iranian drones and military aircraft.
The sanctions target seven individuals and four entities in those four countries that Washington says “facilitated shipments and financial transactions” to Iran’s Aircraft Manufacturing Industrial and its efforts to build drones (UAVs) and military aircraft, the US Treasury Department announced.
“The continued, deliberate proliferation of Iranian UAVs enables Russia, its proxies in the Middle East and other destabilizing agents to undermine global stability,” said US Treasury Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Brian Nelson.
Washington had earlier sanctioned five China-based companies and one individual for selling and shipping aerospace components, including parts used for drones, to the Iranian company, according to the US department.
US officials have said more sanctions against the Islamic Republic are expected, even though the two countries agreed to a prisoner swap this week.
