London, Thanasis Gavos

His position United Kingdom regarding Cyprus does not change, said a diplomatic source in London asked to comment on his call Turkish President Erdogan from her step of the United Nations General Assembly for recognition of the pseudo-state by the international community.

“UK policy on Cyprus is long-standing, well-documented and remains unchanged. We continue to fully recognize the 1960 Treaty regarding the Establishment of the Republic of Cyprus,” the source told SKAI.

At the same time, the United Kingdom’s Under Secretary of State for Europe Leo Doherty assured that his country remains “firmly aligned” with the international reactions to the issue of Varossia and Famagusta and continues to support all related resolutions, such as the Resolutions 550 and 789 of the UN Security Council, as well as the Presidential Declaration of the S.A. of the 2021 UN.

Mr Doherty was responding to a letter from North London Conservative MP Theresa Villiers on behalf of the Famagusta refugees, the Savvidis brothers, who live in the pro-Cypriot politician’s constituency.

Referring to property, the deputy minister noted that it is one of the most complex and sensitive issues of the Cyprus problem and that London believes that it can only be fully resolved as part of a comprehensive solution.

“Our commitment to support this (solution) through the UN process remains unwavering. In the end, it is up to the Cypriot communities to decide the terms of which solution and we continue to encourage all sides to strengthen their efforts in pursuit of this,” concluded the British Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
