Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, speaking at the Security Council, told the West that the West was responsible for the increased risk of global conflict
The head of American diplomacy Anthony Blinken today accused Russia of committing crimes against humanity in the Ukraine war.
“Russia commits war crimes and crimes against humanity almost every day in Ukraine,” Blinken told the UN Security Council shortly after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the body.
The Foreign Minister of Russia Sergey Lavrov, taking the floor, told the Security Council that the West was responsible for the increased risk of global conflict. He accused the US and its allies of meddling in Ukraine’s internal politics after the collapse of the Soviet Union to advance their pro-Western policies, while NATO, he claimed, refused to engage in a dialogue that would prevent tensions from escalating in Europe. .
Responding to Zelensky, who had earlier asked him UN to strip Russia of its veto power in the Security Council, Lavrov said that this right is a “legitimate” legal tool given to all five permanent members of the body. “The veto is a legal tool established in the UN Charter,” he commented.
