Embarrassed and confused, Joe Biden appeared in a joint speech on workers’ rights with Brazilian President Lula da Silva, who did not hide his irritation when the American president left at the end and “forgot” to greet him.

At the start of the two leaders’ event, Joe Biden is seen struggling at first with the headset of his translation device, which soon caught the attention of the Brazilian president.

“Can you hear me, President Biden? This is a historic moment for Brazil and for the US,” the Brazilian leader asked him.

When he didn’t answer immediately, Lula asked again: “President Biden, you hear me?” At one point, Biden put the headphones down and raised his eyebrows in frustration.

At the end of the speech, Joe Biden is seen shaking hands with ILO Director-General Gilbert Hungbo, who took the stage after the two leaders, greeting the audience and then leaving the stage, without, however, greeting Lula.

For his part, Lula looked visibly irritated and made a gesture with his hand.

Despite the individual the two presidents agreed to forge a stronger relationshipas they spoke of their commitment to creating well-paying jobs and ensuring that workers benefit from the digital and green energy transition.

Biden said the U.S.-Brazil cooperation on workers’ rights is only about the two nations for now, but other nations and organizations are also welcome to join.
