“The next day we will be united because this is what recent experience teaches. For the same issues on which we have different approaches today, we had different approaches at our conference. And I’m sure you will also remember the scenes of tension in the room. There were disagreements about the transformation of our party. The same disagreements are reflected in the two nominations. Then we overcame them with the democratic rule of the majority. Our unity was not affected, we moved on and we will move on now too,” emphasized Nikos Pappas, speaking on ERT’s First Program.

“An effort should be made to tone down, to have a political discussion, not to spend too much time on what is written or not written on the internet and social media. People expect answers from us about what we think about the country. And, above all, from the two leadership contenders”, he pointed out in an interview with Action24. Noting at another point that he does not understand the purpose of an intervention by Alexis Tsipras, as requested by some executives.

Regarding the statements about a possible split, he noted that such a development “could also be in the plans of our opponents, in order to achieve our programmatic denervation and to remove SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance from the political equation”.

Regarding the participation in last Sunday’s process, he said that “it was also a clear message of the progressive world, which wants a strong opposition today and a very good progressive government tomorrow.”

In relation to his support for Stefanos Kasselakis, the parliamentary representative of SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance underlined the following: “I served and am serving an agenda with clean talk. I didn’t hide in the first round either, I’m not hiding in the second either. I think the people of SYRIZA appreciate this. At the meeting there was not even a hint of discussion about my own role the next day.”

To add: “We worked on our joint statement with Stefanos Kasselakis. It is full of political meanings, it has references to our declaration, it has references to our openings, it has references to the need to reconnect with the middle class, it has our demarcations on national issues by the Mitsotakis government and it also contains everything that Stefanos brought to discussion in the first round about the Greek dream, about the country, in which every person will be able to freely develop their potential, without these being limited by their color, their origin, their orientation, their gender or their economic his condition. It is a political composition which is productive and constitutes a multiplying force for our party”.
