“The only solution is the recognition of the TRNC” said the Turkish president, unmoved by his positions on the Cyprus issue
Turkey and Israel can work to create new cooperation in areas such as energy, tourism and technology, the Turkish president said after meeting with the Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu according to a report in Anadolu.
He said that the Israeli prime minister will visit Turkey in the near future.
THE Recep Tayyip Erdogan he underlined that “the Thessaloniki Summit will be an important step in Turkey-Greece relations, our foreign ministers will make the necessary preparations”.
More specifically, he stated:
“Our Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will meet with the Foreign Minister of Greece on the matter. Likewise, my Chief Foreign Policy and Security Adviser, Ambassador Akif ÇaÄŸatay Kılıç, will also work with his interlocutor. Our goal is to dissolve the troubled atmosphere in the Aegean and Mitsotakis’ approach is in this direction. But the most important step for us right now will be the summit in Thessaloniki, God willing. The Thessaloniki Summit will now be a major leap forward between Turkey and Greece. Our Foreign Ministers will make preliminary preparations and we will hold this summit in Thessaloniki, hopefully on December 7. With this summit, we hope to see that many things have changed.
Recently, both countries have been tested by disasters. These negative situations brought our countries closer together in terms of cooperation. The recent increase in high-level contacts also supported the current positive atmosphere. I hope that our consultative contacts after the Thessaloniki Summit in the next period will make the process even more positive. As Turkey and Greece, we must stay away from steps and statements that will damage the environment of trust. We need to take steps together in this area so that the upcoming process can proceed safely.”
With reference to Nagorno-Karabakh noted that Azerbaijan’s anti-terrorist activities in Karabakh are not related to Prime Minister Pashinyan, but to the Armenian rebel group in the region.
Regarding the possible resumption of the Black Sea grain agreement, the Turkish president said: “I have hopes, we will discuss these issues with Putin.”
For Cypriot stated:
“We made another invitation to the international community. The recognition of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus as an independent state is the only and most effective step that will contribute to the solution of the Cyprus issue. We don’t recognize any options other than this. We are determined to maintain the rights of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus to the end, within the guarantor’s right granted to us by international law. We expect that the door opened by the TRNC’s accession to the Organization of Turkish States as an observer member will continue. The recognition of the TRNC as an independent state by one country after another serves peace and tranquility in the Eastern Mediterranean. Our next road map includes effective steps to be taken towards the full protection of the rights of the TRNC and its integration into the international system.”
